Steve and Sue—How love and marriage started with a dating service

Steve, now 48, joined February 1997. Sue, now 33, joined August 1997.

Steve wanted to get married and have a family. Steve also had a busy career as an attorney and found it difficult to meet the right single women. He made the decision to try Great Expectations' dating service when he was 45 years old.

Sue was 30 when she joined Great Expectations. With her career as an art teacher fully underway she was ready to focus on completing her dream of the perfect life: loving and supportive husband, children and career.

It was a day in October that would change both of their lives forever. Steve had already found Sue. He read her singles profile, seen her photographs and watched her video. He knew he was very interested in dating this special lady. They had a lot in common. Steve enjoys art and even does some artwork himself. Admittedly, Steve feels he has a strong artistic inclination. So when he read Sue's profile and learned that she was an art major who was "looking for a man who has high moral standards, a strong sense of direction and an absurd sense of humor (or at least a man who can tolerate mine)," he knew immediately there would be a spark.

When Sue received the card indicating Steve was interested in meeting her, she read his profile and checked out his video. Sue recalls really "liking his voice and getting a sense that he was very open minded and had a non-judgmental nature." Sue wanted to meet Steve and gave him a call.

The day after their first date, Steve was so excited about Sue that he "half-kidding and half-seriously" told a friend of his that Sue was someone he would like to marry. Sue said she immediately felt comfortable with Steve and enjoyed spending time with him. She even commented, "I really enjoyed being with him and that kind of made me nervous—I was liking it so much!".

After only three months of dating and getting to know each other as singles, Steve and Sue were engaged. Steve "popped the question" at the same restaurant where they had their first date. And in October, on Halloween, they got married.

"Great Expectations worked for us," said Steve. He continues to refer others to Great Expectations and emphasizes that the Great Expectation system of profile, photos and video really works!

Do Steve and Sue feel they are soul mates? "Definitely!" they say in unison.
